Un portrait inédit de Victor Louis par Pierre Lacour
En 1992 était proposé dans une vente aux enchères à Paris un portrait accompagné du descriptif suivant : « Pierre Lacour (Bordeaux 1778 - 1859) - Portrait de l'architecte Louis Combes - Toile - Signé Lacour - 81 x 62, 5 cm ». La Société des amis du musée d'Aquitaine l'a acquis y reconnaissant un portrait de Victor Louis peint par Pierre Lacour père, la signature étant authentifiée. L’article présente les quatre portraits actuellement connus de Victor Louis. L'identification du personnage est confirmée même si le tableau ne porte pas de date. Le dessin du projet de portique du Gand Théâtre que tient l'architecte reste mal déterminé. On comprend que les deux hommes ne furent jamais proches mais l'on peut penser que cherchant à établir sa notoriété naissante Lacour a logiquement cherché à faire le portrait de l'architecte le plus en vue de la ville. La description du portrait permet de saisir l'intérêt de cette représentation directe et sincère.
A hitherto lost portrait of Victor Louis by Pierre Lacour
A portrait with the following description « Piene Lacour (Bordeaux, 1778-1859)- Portrait of the architect Louis Combes-Canvas- signed by Lacour-81 x 62,5 cm » was on sale in an auction in Paris in 1992. The Société des amis du musée d' Aquitaine bought it as they recognised a portrait of Victor Louis, the father with an authenticated signature. This article presents the four currently well-known portraits of Victor Louis. The person has been clearly identifred even though the painting is undated. It is unclear which drawing was chosen by the architect for the project for the portico of the Grand Théâtre. We understand that the two men were never close but it might appear logical that Lacour should seek to paint the portrait of the most famous architect in town as part of his effort, to consolidate his growing popularity. The description of the portrait indicates the value of this direct and sincere portrayal.
