Parmi les nombreux architectes bordelais de la seconde moitié du XIXe siècle, Ernest Minvielle est un des plus méconnus. Pourtant, sa notabilité et ses réalisations, tant à Bordeaux qu'en Gironde et au-delà, firent de lui une personnalité de premier plan. Il s'illustra tout particulièrement dans le domaine des constructions viticoles, dont il se fit une spécialité, en Médoc notamment, pour une riche clientèle de propriétaires terriens. Il contribua ainsi à inscrire le prestige du vignoble dans la pierre et fut l'un des principaux promoteurs de la diffusion du modèle architectural du « château viticole » bordelais.

The architect and the model: Ernest Minvielle and vineyard architecture
Among the many architects from the second half of the 19th century in Bordeaux, Ernest Minvielle is one of the least famous. Yet his significance and work, in Bordeaux as well as in the Gironde and beyond, made him a leading personality. He became particularly famous with the vineyard constructions which became his specialty in the Médoc and for wealthy landowners. Thus he played a part in translating the prestige of vineyards into stone and was one of the prime movers in spreading the architectural model of the Bordeaux "wine chateau".
