Réhabilitation de l’ancien couvent des Cordeliers de Saint-Émilion
La restauration et la transformation de l’ancien Couvent des Cordeliers de Saint-Émilion a été un pari relevé par l’agence Architecture Patrimoine. En s’appuyant sur les études préalables historiques et archéologiques le projet s’est attaché à produire une restitution des bâtiments, ménageant la prégnance de l’ancienne fonction sacrée et le programme demandé d’exploitation œnotouristique. Ainsi les différents espaces du site ont reçu un traitement qui allie contemporanéité et restauration. L’article décrit comment, en utilisant les matériaux les plus contemporains (charpente en mâts carbone, confortements en fibre de verre), l’architecte a voulu préserver l’esprit du lieu par une restauration respectueuse de la matière ancienne. Un programme de vitraux contemporains a également accompagné l’ensemble, pour que ce site ouvert au public puisse présenter une activité commerciale dans un écrin médiéval restauré.
Rehabilitation of the old couvent des Cordeliers in Saint-Emilion
The restoration and transformation of the old Couvent des Cordeliers of Saint-Emilion was a challenge undertaken by the Architecture Patrimoine agency. Building on the preliminary historical and archeological studies, the project took upon itself to provide a restitution of the buildings, preserving the importance of the old sacred function and the request to develop oenotourism. In that respect, the different areas of the site received a treatment combining contemporaneity and restoration. The article describes how, by using the most contemporary materials (carbon masts structure, fiberglass reinforcements), the architect wished to preserve the sense of place by a restoration respecting of the old material. A contemporary stained glass program supported the ensemble as well, so that the public site could offer a commercial activity in a restored medieval setting.
