Les Calvimont à l'Herm : le château périgourdin de parlementaires bordelais
Dans le cadre des opérations archéologiques menées depuis plusieurs années sur le château de l'Herm en Dordogne, l'analyse du bâti et sa confrontation aux archives ont permis de dater la construction, qui commence en 1500 et s'achève au début des années 1520, et de retrouver les commanditaires, Jean de Calvimont, père et fils, respectivement conseiller et second président au Parlement de Bordeaux. Site castral, tours, créneaux, mâchicoulis, décor flamboyant construisent pourtant une image plus tournée vers la chevalerie que vers la magistrature, confirmant le rôle particulier du château dans la société de l'époque.

The Calvimonts at l'Herm : the Perigord Château of Bordeaux Parliamentarians
Thanks to the archaeological research carried out for many years at the Château de l'Herm in the Dordogne, the analysis of the walls and its comparison to the archives have enabled us to date the construction, which started in 1500 and ended at the beginning of the 1520s, and to find who commissioned it, namely the Jeans de Calvimont, father and son, the former a magistrate and the latter the second President of the Parliament of Bordeaux. However, the castral site, the towers, the crenellations, the machicolation, and the flamboyant decoration convey an image more chivalrous than judicial, which confirms the special role of the château in the society of the period.
