Le site de la Madeleine à Saint-Émilion de sa genèse à son abandon, l’apport de cinq campagnes de fouilles programmées
Les cinq campagnes de fouille conduites sur le plateau de La Madeleine à Saint-Émilion ont permis de mettre au jour les vestiges de l’église romane Sainte-Marie-Madeleine, citée dans une charte vers 1110, et détruite vers les années 1338-1340. Les données accumulées, combinées à la stratigraphie, permettent de distinguer au sein du cimetière quatre niveaux d’occupation funéraire allant du XIe jusqu’au XVIIe siècle. La présence d’une vingtaine de caveaux pourrissoirs constitue l’originalité du site.
The Madeleine Site in Saint-Émilion from its Genesis to its Abandonment, the contribution of five planned excavation campaigns.
The five excavation campaigns carried out on the plateau of La Madeleine in Saint-Émilion have brought to light the remains of the roman church of Sainte-Marie-Madeleine, cited in a charter around 1110, and destroyed around 1338-1340 . The accumulated data, combined with the stratigraphy, allow us to distinguish within the cemetery four levels of funerary occupation ranging from the 11th to the 17th century. The presence of approximately twenty burial vaults constitutes the originality of the site
