Un hôtel oublié de la rue de Cheverus
L’immeuble, 9 rue de Cheverus, fut occupé, sous l’Ancien régime, par des familles de juristes et de médecins qui lui donnèrent à la fin du XVIIIe siècle son aspect actuel. Sa transformation au cours du XIXe siècle en maison de rapport entraina des modifications importantes. S’il reste peu de vestiges du XVIIe siècle, l’important portail construit vers 1775, plaqué sur des bâtiments hétéroclites, marque l’arrivée à Bordeaux du nouveau style à la grecque.
A Forgotten Mansion on the rue de Cheverus
The building, 9 rue de Cheverus, was occupied under the Old Regime by families of jurists and doctors who gave it itspresent appearance at the end of the 18th century. Its transformation during the 19th century into a retirement home brought about significant modifications. There remain few vestiges of the 17th century and the important portal built around 1775 fixed upon heterogeneous buildings which marks the arrival in Bordeaux of the new Greek style.
