L’ancien couvent des Cordeliers de Saint-Émilion, suivi archéologique de la restauration d’un site classé
En 2017, dans le cadre de travaux de restauration, l’ancien couvent des Cordeliers de Saint-Émilion a fait l’objet d’un suivi archéologique qui a apporté des données inédites sur les origines et le développement de cet établissement religieux. L’étude du bâti menée sur l’église dévoile cinq étapes distinctes de construction. La découverte d’un chevet plat permet de comprendre le plan originel de l’établissement qui a été bâti dans un environnement contraint. La fouille de sépultures au sein de l’édifice de culte et l’étude anthropologique menée sur les individus offrent la possibilité de mieux caractériser la population le fréquentant.

In 2017, the old couvent des Cordeliers in Saint–Emilion underwent an archeological monitoring that brought forth new data on the origins and development of this religious institution. The study done on the assembly of the church reveals five different stages of construction. The discovery of a flat chevet helps understand the establishment’s original design which was built in a constraining environment. The excavation of graves within the religious building as well as the anthropological study of these individuals give the ability to characterize the site’s population.
